What is mindfulness?

By not worrying about the past or feeling so anxious about the future, we can experience more pleasure, joy and happiness in the present moment. Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

Turning off autopilot and being in the now. By doing this we
appreciate the important things, the smaller things and can live a more rewarding and fulfilling life.

Should I meditate or start a mindfulness practice?

Having a mindfulness practice can reduce stress, control anxiety, enhance self-awareness, approve attention span, generate kindness to others, help fight addictions, control pain, improve sleep, decrease blood pressure.

Meditation is something everyone can do and you can do it anywhere, without special equipment.  It's important to try out different styles of mediation to find what suites you.  Also remember that even if you only have a few minutes to do it each day it's a great start.

Can happiness be taught?

Happiness can be learnt through methods of positive psychology. It has been scientifically proven, that wellbeing & positive emotions can be taught.  Based on research happiness has many benefits: enhances motivation, possible to live longer, have better problem-solving skills,  more creative, helpful and can concentrate better, build strengths, boost optimism and to be calmer.

Learning happiness is important, possible and beneficial!

How do you practice gratitude?

Gratitude is about about focusing on what's good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have.  However small they may be. Gratitude is pausing to notice and appreciate the things that we often take for granted.  Each of these small moments strings together to create a web of wellbeing that, over time, strengthens our ability to notice the good.

Practicing gratitude can improve mental health and boost our relationships with others.

Do we all need more self-compassion?

Scientific research into Self-compassion over the last decade has shown it has many benefits for wellbeing. Individuals who are more self-compassionate tend to have greater happiness, life satisfaction and motivation, better relationships and physical health, and less anxiety and depression.

We also have the resilience
needed to cope with stressful life events.  We can learn to embrace ourselves and our lives, despite inner and outer imperfections, and provide ourselves with the strength needed to thrive.

Why we need to connect to nature

Being in nature can reduce fear, anger, stress and depression and increase pleasant feelings, positivity and a general feeling of good.  Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.
